Check the Route All the Way to the Chair
Ask specific questions about entrances, lifts, treatment space, transfers and support before booking, so the appointment can be planned around your needs.

Describe what access means for you
The ODA recommends discussing individual care needs with the dental office. A general statement that a building is accessible may not answer your treatment questions. Describe your mobility device, positioning needs and whether transferring is possible or appropriate.[1]
Ask about the entrance, elevator, door widths, treatment-room space and washroom. If a transfer is proposed, clarify the equipment, staff support and safe method in advance. Do not assume a companion can lift or transfer you.
Plan the appointment itself
Discuss pressure relief, time in one position, communication, fatigue and the role of a support person you choose. Ask whether a preliminary conversation would help establish what the office can provide or whether another setting is needed.
Confirm arrival instructions and a contact number for access problems. If the necessary equipment or support is unavailable, ask about an appropriate referral before making the trip. The purpose is a workable care arrangement with clear responsibilities, not simply getting through the front door.
