Check the Date, Then Book the Chair

Where to confirm your CDCP start date, what the current renewal rules mean, and why an old membership card is not enough.

Find your own coverage date

Your approval letter contains the CDCP member information, coverage start date and co-payment level. Canada.ca says to confirm that coverage is active before each appointment. A card in your wallet does not, by itself, confirm coverage for a particular treatment date.[1]

Keep the letter somewhere you can find it. When contacting a participating provider, have the membership information ready and ask the office to verify eligibility for the planned date. Use the official Canada.ca status checker or Service Canada contact route if your own records are unclear.[1]

Watch the benefit period

As checked on October 20, 2026, the renewal period for 2026-27 closed on June 1, 2026. People who missed it can submit a new application, but care during a coverage gap is not reimbursed retroactively. The government says renewals for 2027-28 will open in spring 2027.[2]

Check the linked government page for the next announced dates rather than copying last year's deadline. If an appointment falls near a coverage change, ask the office what needs reconfirming. Keep clinical urgency in the conversation too: a paperwork delay is something to discuss, not a reason to ignore new pain.
