A Bracket Has Come Loose
Describe the problem to your orthodontic team, use their interim advice and know when an injury or other symptoms need urgent care.

Call the treating office
A loose bracket or poking wire can interfere with comfort and treatment. The AAO recommends contacting the orthodontic team promptly. Explain whether a bracket slides, a wire sticks out or an appliance has come off completely.[1]
Ask whether a photo would help and how soon to attend. Keep a detached piece in a container if it can be safely collected. Avoid pulling at parts still attached or trying a repair with household glue or tools.
Manage irritation while arranging advice
Orthodontic wax may protect a rubbing area temporarily; follow the team's instructions. Avoid foods that could further damage the appliance. If you are unsure how to use a comfort measure, ask for a demonstration rather than repeatedly experimenting.[1]
Breathing or swallowing difficulty, heavy bleeding or a significant mouth or jaw injury needs emergency assessment. After urgent health needs are addressed, contact the orthodontic team about repairing the appliance. Do not let concern about a bracket distract from an injured tooth or other trauma.[1]
