Would a Teaching Clinic Fit Your Week?
Teaching clinics can offer reduced fees, but treatment suitability and appointment time matter. Here are the practical questions to ask.

Consider time as well as cost
The University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry describes care by student learners under licensed supervision at reduced fees. Its patient information says appointments may take up to three hours and treatment can involve repeated visits. Registration does not guarantee acceptance for treatment.[1]
Before applying, look at the current clinic information for your type of need. Ask about the screening process, likely time commitment, waiting period and whether the clinic is accepting suitable new cases. Consider work, transit and caregiving arrangements across several visits, not only the first one.
Check the payment arrangement
The faculty's current information says private insurance is not directly billed: patients pay and receive paperwork for reimbursement. Government program arrangements differ. Ask the clinic what applies to your plan and service before assuming you will have no upfront expense.[1]
Have your health and medication information ready and ask which previous records would help. If you have an urgent dental problem, describe it when enquiring; a teaching clinic's routine intake process should not be mistaken for immediate emergency access.
