Why There May Be Another Set of Aligners
An additional aligner series can follow a progress review. Ask what movement remains, what changes in the plan and what to wear while waiting.

You reach the last numbered packet and expect the next conversation to be about retainers. Instead, the clinician recommends more aligners. An additional series is often called a refinement. The useful next step is to understand what remains to be achieved and why a revised sequence is being proposed.[2]
Ask what the review found
Have the clinician show you the specific remaining issue: a tooth position, a contact between teeth or part of the bite. Ask how the finding compares with the original goals. A tray number tells you where you are in a manufactured sequence; it is not, by itself, confirmation that every clinical goal has been reached.
Clear-aligner treatment needs monitoring, and the British Orthodontic Society includes failure to achieve the intended result among its possible risks. The examination matters alongside the digital plan. Ask what the new series is intended to change and what alternatives would be reasonable at this point.[1]

Make the waiting period explicit
If another scan or impression is needed, ask what happens between that visit and delivery of the next trays. Get a definite instruction about which appliance to wear and its schedule. Do not assume you should stop wearing the current tray, switch backwards or keep changing through leftover packets.
Discuss fit problems and actual wear time without trying to make the account sound better. Mention lost trays, attachments that came off and any dental work since the last review. The team can only explain the next plan against the information it has.
Confirm time, cost and the finish
Ask whether additional scans, aligners and visits are included in your agreement and request an updated estimate if they are not. Clarify how progress will be judged, without treating the new estimated finish date as a guarantee. Retainers remain a separate stage: confirm when they will be made and how retention will be reviewed.
